Data from MTG’s new lightning imager available in AERIS!

Eumetsat declared the L2 data from MTG-I1’s LI lightning imager operational on October 31st.
They contain optical signal detection information for intra-cloud, inter-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning. The data are available on the AERIS/ICARE platform in the form of five products.

  • Pointed data are provided via two 10-second products: Groups (LGR) and Flashes (LFL). Events data (the finest data) are not broadcast in real time, but are available from the Eumetsat Data Store.
  • Three products for accumulated data are also available on a regular 30-second grid: Accumulated Flash Area (AFA), Accumulated Flash (AF) and Accumulated Flash Radiance (AFR).

For more information on these products, please consult the Eumetsat Data Guide https://user.eumetsat.int/resources/user-guides/mtg-li-level-2-data-guide
