TRATTORIA Workshop (Radiative Transfer in Terrestrial Atmospheres for Spatial obseRvations)
26 May @ 8 h 00 min - 28 May @ 17 h 00 min

CNES, in collaboration with CNRS/INSU, EUMETSAT and Météo-France, is organising the third Trattoria workshop. This workshop is devoted to radiative transfer codes in the Earth’s atmosphere for space-based remote sensing applications, operating over the entire wavelength range from the ultraviolet to microwaves. These codes are fundamental for the preparation of remote sensing instruments, as well as for the processing of satellite data. The objectives of this workshop, which is open to the French-speaking national and European community, are as follows:
– Evaluate the needs for radiative transfer codes, over the next five or ten years, of the main French and European users (scientists, meteorologists and climatologists, space agencies, algorithm companies). The scope of application of the LTRs concerned is limited to the Earth’s atmosphere.
– To provide an overview of the codes currently in use, recalling their main characteristics, presenting their main developments and identifying their uses in different fields of application.
– To bring together the various user communities and encourage greater convergence of the codes used in France, at least by spectral domain and for high-precision models.
– To raise awareness of the software developed and the associated databases, in particular those produced with the support of CNES for its own missions.
The subject will be addressed through summary presentations, posters and round tables (see detailed programme):
– The summary presentations (by invitation only) are designed to present the state of the art for each technique, the problems to be solved and the developments expected in the coming years.
– The round tables will then provide an opportunity to discuss key issues and draw conclusions and recommendations.
– The presentations will be complemented by posters offering an in-depth look at what is being studied in the laboratories or carried out by the various players (laboratories, algorithmic companies, etc.).
– A cocktail reception will be held on Monday evening to encourage discussion between participants.
The workshop is open to researchers, engineers, post-docs and PhD students. Depending on the number of registrations, the workshop’s scientific committee may have to make a selection of participants.
The last half-day will be devoted to an assessment of the round tables. The results and recommendations of the workshop should serve as a ‘guide’ for the CNES and the various French and European participants and users of radiative transfer codes, and will therefore be circulated after the workshop and forwarded to the PNTS and international working groups (e.g. ISSWG, RTSP WG of the ITSC conference).
The registration is open until 30th of April.
