Data-SDUE: A Survival Guide to the Data Jungle in Earth and Environmental Sciences

10/10/2022 @ 8 h 00 min - 14/10/2022 @ 17 h 00 min

DATA-SDUE is a thematic school organised by INSU on data management in Earth System and Environmental Sciences. It aims to raise awareness of the different stages of the data life cycle, from acquisition/production to valorisation: – collecting data and putting them in standard, open and free formats recommended by the data centres – describe data through standardised and interoperable metadata using general or thematic thesauri (controlled vocabularies) – deposit the data in ad-hoc thematic repositories, certified and/or complying with TRUST principles, in order to allow access and reuse; – referencing data with permanent identifiers (e.g. DOI); – to enhance the value of the work done through data papers. The second objective is to clarify the national landscape, in particular the services provided by IR Data Terra, and to guide participants through the multitude of offers. Organised by CNRS-INSU, with the sponsorship of DataTerra, OSU EOST and the ITES laboratory, the Thematic School will take place from 10 to 14 October in Strasbourg. The school will be facilitated by people involved in Open Science and data management from the 4 Data Terra IR clusters (Aeris, ForM@Ter, Odatis and Theia), INIST, UMS BBEES, and the SIST network of CNRS-INSU. No prerequisites are necessary, just the desire to be proactive and the wish to know how to make one’s data FAIR in order to share and valorise them. Target audience: Anyone involved in the production, processing and/or dissemination of data in Earth System and Environmental Sciences (researchers, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, engineers and technicians). – 30 places are available: 15 for CNRS staff and 15 for staff from other organisations. Trainees will be selected on the basis of their involvement in projects requiring data management and valorisation. Nevertheless, all applications will be evaluated. No technical prerequisites are required. Information and pre-registration before 15 September: https://data-sdue.sciencesconf.org
