Project objectives

The AERO-HDF campaign project involves carrying out an airborne campaign in the Hauts-de-France region, using mainly the OSIRIS polarimetric imager and PLASMA photometer (LOA) and equipment on the French UMS SAFIRE ATR aircraft (radiative fluxes and in situ aerosol/gas/cloud measurements).

The project includes technical aspects relating to the preparation of 3MI, as well as scientific exploitation of the data in conjunction with the activities of labex CaPPA. The project is funded by the labex and also by CNES, IRePSE and the Hauts-de-France region (via the CPER ECRIN). The CaPPA labex aims to study the physico-chemical properties of aerosols, their precursors and the radiative impact of these particles at different levels in the atmosphere, as well as their potential effects on clouds and air quality. The data collected during AERO-HDF will be used to carry out studies specific to the objectives of the labex, such as the study of the links between the optical properties returned by remote sensing and the physico-chemical properties of aerosols, the study of the effect of the marine environment on the mixing state and properties of pollution aerosols over Dunkirk, the English Channel and the North Sea, and the identification of the sources of these particles.

As part of this campaign, the AERIS/SEDOO center contributed to the publication of the campaign data through the SAFIRE+ metadata catalog.
