MICROCARB mission: imminent launch!

MicroCarb’s objective is to map, on a global scale, the sources and sinks of the main greenhouse gas: CO2. Thanks to its measurements from space, Microcarb will be able to identify the main carbon sinks, but also monitor emissions from urban areas and vegetation, taking into account seasonal variations. What makes Microcarb unique is that it achieves this goal with a small instrument that can be carried on a Myriade-type microsatellite platform. Developed by CNES with French funding as part of the Future Investment Plan, in partnership with CNRSCEAMétéo France, ESAUKSASCGI this scientific mission is a first in Europe.

AERIS is participating in the development of the ground segment alongside CNES and Eumetsat.
In this context, CNES is designing the data processing software (levels 1 and 2), while Eumetsat is developing the operational processing chain into which this software will be integrated.
AERIS will then receive the data transmitted by Eumetsat, which it will be responsible for exploiting and making available to the scientific community. The data will be disseminated to the international scientific community through the MICROCARB portal.

The launch is scheduled for the night of 25 to 26 July by the VEGA-C launcher! You can follow the launch live on the CNES YouTube channel:
