Observation data from the Météo-France ground-based observation network

Data access

AERIS provides access to observation data from the Météo-France ground weather observation network (RADOME and extended network) in France.

Observation data from the ground network is made up of two products:

  • Real-time data measured at automatic stations in the French network with an hourly time step.
  • Real-time data measured at automatic stations in the French network with a sub-hourly time step (6 minutes).

AERIS manages the conversion chain from Météo-France products in CSV format to the NetCDF format widely used in the Atmosphere community. Recent products since July 2023 have been converted and are available for download. The recovery and conversion of historical data from the 2000s onwards is currently available.

Product description

These are “real-time” data measured at automatic stations on the French network with hourly and/or sub-hourly (6-minute) time steps. The basic parameters measured are :

  • temperature
  • humidity
  • wind direction and strength,
  • precipitation.

Additional parameters, depending on the instrumentation present at the stations, are :

  • ground temperature,
  • visibility
  • ground conditions,
  • insolation,
  • global radiation,

These parameters are available either for the stations in the RADOME network (around 550 stations) or for the entire extended network (around 1,150 stations).
