SEDOO’s involvement in the European IRISCC project on climate change risks
The European IRISCC project, which focuses on the risks associated with climate change, officially got under way on 1 April. It is coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and brings together 80 partners from across Europe. It integrates the research services of 14 research infrastructures (RIs) and e-infrastructures. The main mission is to strengthen society’s capacity to cope with the risks associated with climate change and to develop its resilience by providing access to interdisciplinary research platforms and data for researchers focusing on the risks associated with climate change.
IRISCC objectives:
- To support the development of evidence-based policies for climate change adaptation and risk management.
- Facilitate high quality research on risks induced by climate change and its components.
- To provide a user-friendly and comprehensive portfolio of services for climate change risk research.
- Ensure seamless integration between RIs and harmonise their access and data policies.
- Promote user engagement and co-creation of services with researchers and other stakeholders.
The AERIS/SEDOO data centre is involved in this ambitious European project through its work as the IAGOS IR data centre. Thus, IAGOS is involved in several Work Packages of the IRISCC project for the implementation of Virtual Access and the Service Catalogue.
As part of this project, IAGOS has developed an anomaly visualisation service to help interpret long series of observations. It will be available from April 2025 when the IRISCC Service Catalogue goes online.
IAGOS is also participating in the development of two Demonstrators on health risks and forest fires, which will be deployed in the second phase of the project.
